Rights-Based Litmus Test
1. First, do no harm
Do the policies promoted by the SDGs prohibit practices that result in systemic human-rights violations and environmental degradation?
2. Eradicate the root causes of poverty
Do the policies promoted by the SDGs ensure that people have the resources, capabilities, choices, security and power necessary for the full enjoyment of their human rights?
3. People as rights-holders
Do the policies promoted by the SDGs guarantee people’s rights to participation, including access to information, freedom of expression and assembly, self-determination (FPIC) and effective remedy for harms committed?
4. Sustainability
Do the policies promoted by the SDGs protect the land, water and air for the rights of future generations and our planet?
